Buying Gifts For Faraway Friends And Family

Buying gifts online can be nerve racking. Once you buy the gift, the owner will ship the gift to your home. After this, you will have to wrap the gift. Package the gift again and spend precious time getting the package mailed or find an UPS store to send.

When looking for gifts for faraway friends and family, check out shipping instruction. Will the package arrival in time to reship? Will the product be in stock? What discounts does the store offer for shipping? What type of shipping does the store offer?

Some stores online can help with all these questions and more. Most sites will tell you ahead of time before ordering approximate shipping time. This can give you an idea if you will have enough time to reship the gift to a faraway friend or family member. Some stores online will give free shipping or reduce shipping rates during the holiday seasons. Remember free shipping or reduce rate is not always the best way to go. Some storeowners will increase the price of the product to cover the cost.

When shopping online look for the type of shipping the store offers. Some will have a flat rate, regular mail, UPS, Federal Express, and other types of shipping. Make sure the shipping you choose is in your area when shopping.

Stores will tell you when out of stock items before ordering. This helps to continue your search for the perfect gift for family and friends that live faraway.

Look for online stores that offer shipping address to faraway friends and family members. This will save you time and money with reshipping the package. Some sites offer free address book in your account to help with shipping address.

Shopping online can save you time and money. Shipping charges can replace the gas price at the pump and save you money with not having to reship.

Blended Family Summer Bonding Activities

As a blended family, you have likely already identified activities that everyone loves doing. Going to the beach or the pool, outdoor activities like softball or lawn darts, going for drives, to the movies, theme parks, camping, visiting relatives; any or all of these might be something your family is looking forward to doing this summer. Whenever you find something that everyone likes to do together, try to fit it into your schedule.

Family game days
A day at home does not have to be boring or spent in front of the television or the computer! If your blended family ground rules prohibit overuse of electronic equipment, offer alternative activities. You might like to set up a scavenger hunt for the step siblings in your stepfamily.

These hunts might be limited to the house and yard, or you may feel comfortable sending off teams or pairs of step siblings to find and carry home the items on their scavenger lists. Items on the list might include things like a tennis ball, a pink shoe, an empty tin can, a maple leaf, etc., things that can fit into a plastic garbage bag. If you like, make the game more challenging and include things like a seed for an oak tree, or a tube of dentifrice. Appropriate rewards for finding the most items might be presented, such as a pass on nightly chores.

Board game or computer game marathons are always a good way to spend a day or two locked in competitive fun. You may want to check online for ideas of free family computer games that are appropriate for your step family. It really does not matter whether you and your step family enjoy monopoly, checkers or a fast-action computer game together. What matters is that you enjoy doing something together. Having fun together builds bonds and memories.

Share laughter
A movie or television show that makes everyone laugh is a free ticket to blended family fun. Sharing a laugh is among the best bonding activities a blended family can have, so take advantage of every opportunity to share a laugh with your step family members. Building a blended family based on shared laughter and enjoyment of each other makes for bonds that endure.

Step family group projects
Summertime is a great time for a group project within your blended family. Building or erecting a swing set or tree house, taken from planning sessions at the kitchen table to the home building supplies store to the backyard, are the kinds of projects that can keep step parents and their kids involved, communicating, and accomplishing something together.

Choose projects that encourage teaching moments, such as measuring, cutting, hammering, and problem solving needed to construct a swing set. When step kids learn something useful from a step parent, and have fun at the same time, bonds are created while life lessons are learned.

The most important project for step family summers is to enjoy being together. Whatever you do as a blended family, make it satisfying for everyone, make it family-focused, and make it fun. Although step kids may not spend their entire summer vacation with you, make time for a project; something that takes planning, execution, and has a definite accomplishment factor so you can celebrate it together. A blended family that plays together stays together.

Stories And Short Poems For Kids A Family Reading Night

Reading stories and short poems for kids aloud to your children is a critical step in teaching your child to read, but it has a wonderful hidden benefit as well. When you take the time to read to your children you are taking time with them, with no distractions, no cell phone, no computer, no TV. You are showing them that they are an important priority for you. They will love that special time with you, no matter their age.

Many of our read aloud story times have led to some great heart to heart discussions. Reading stories together gives us time to slow down and a reason to talk about things that maybe we wouldn’t on a day to day basis. Stories are a wonderful way to teach life lessons, reinforce good choices, model positive morals and open the door to talk about life’s difficulties such as sickness or death, dating or peer pressure.

As your children get older and you move into more challenging reading material they will benefit greatly from the discussions that will arise during your story time. Keep communication lines open with your children by simply reading to them. The relationship and communication that your family read aloud times will establish can carry you through what could be some very tough teenage years.

There is simply something magical about stories. We are all drawn into them, no matter our age. Sometimes my older child doesn’t feel like joining in our reading times because he’s too busy listening to music or on his iPod, but inevitably, as we get into the story he is drawn into the room from wherever he was. He can’t help but listen – and usually sits down with us to hear the rest of the story.

Institute a story night in your home this week, and if your older children roll their eyes at you just smile, they will learn to love that special time with you.

Why Family Reunion Is So Important

Family reunion can be described as an event or a function in which most family members gather at a certain venue and share their experiences. Family reunion normally comprises of things like having some meals and discussing the past and the future. For kids, most family reunions normally have games and some other fun activities. Family reunions help in staying in touch with the extended family members. Family reunions can also be used as a social networking platform for making new connections and strengthening the older ones. Theses new connections will not only help you emotionally but also can help you professionally as well.

The main reason why family reunions should be taken seriously is because human beings are social in nature, interacting with others and sharing ideas will benefit childrens and help them in becoming a good citizen and contribute to the society in a positive way. Kids will also get to know about their other family members and their family history. Knowing their family history is very important for each member of the family because it tells them about their background and helps them in understanding their heritage. As far as its scientific value is concerned, it helps in maintaining the accurate family tree. Family reunions also help in rejuvenating old relations that have become strained and lifeless due to absolute lack of communication. Kids also get the chance to meet with their cousins and bond with them.

Family reunions should be organized in such a way that each and every member of the family attending the reunion should find something that he or she can enjoy. While planning for reunion weather should also be taken into account. Extreme weather conditions like very high temperature during summer, low temperature during winter and wet and windy monsoons can mar the occasion. Pleasant weather during the family reunion will make everyone happy. Another thing worth mentioning is the location of the reunion. Location may not be very important for young family members but it is very important for old ones, it should be very carefully chosen so that each member of the family can easily attend the family reunion. Keeping all these things in mind will make your family reunion unforgettable.

Family Is The Most Important Thing In Life

My wife and I have been married for over 3 years. We have one 2 year old precious daughter and we have one more child on the way. I can honestly say that family is the most important thing in life. It is more important than money, than jobs, entertainment, or anything else. It will bring the most fulfillment to your life. Here are the things that I have learned throughout my life to help produce a loving and productive family.

First, make sure that everyone practices love and forgiveness. Life isn’t perfect and neither is marriage and family. There are hard times and people can say some pretty mean things while upset. But what matters is what you do after the hard times have struck. Do you stick it out and work it out? Or whine in pity like a child? You must work through whatever you’re going through and you must practice forgiveness and love amongst your family. This will keep your family together through any hardship.

Next, involve everyone in all that you do. Whether you’re going to a movie, having dinner, going on a trip, or whatever, try to include everyone in the family in the preparation and the implementation of whatever it is you’re doing. Make sure that others feel like they are contributing and they are useful and important.

Another tip is to: DO THINGS! It’s perfectly fine and nice to have family time at home, but occasionally you need to get out of the house. You don’t have to necessarily spend a lot of money either. Sure, you can go on a trip or do one of a thousand things that is expensive. But you can always do things that are cheap or even free! Take a walk around your neighborhood, have a picnic, go walk the mall; the possibilities are practically endless. Families need to spend time together, doing things. This builds strong families. Another thing to do, is the exact opposite of the above. Ensure that your family gets quality individual time. It’s good to be together, in fact it’s great, but it’s also vitally important for people to have their own alone time.

Keep your family healthy by exercising together and by eating healthy foods. Eat plenty of healthy fats, whole grains, and quality protein. Take walks together and spend time out doors. Turn the TV OFF!

READ TO YOUR KIDS!!! Children love reading and you need to spend time reading to them. This will encourage their mental development and make them intelligent individuals. And if you don’t have kids, make sure you and your wife still read as well! Movies and TV are great, but nothing beats sitting back and reading a classic book.

Be spiritual together. Pray together every night and attend church together. Don’t just send your kids to church but take your whole family!

Just make sure you spend time with your family. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how much money you make, or how many movies you watch; what matters in life is how you have affected the ones you love. Spend time with your family. It helps build a peaceful and productive society.

A Starter Guide To Self Improvement

Staying calm, composed and maintaining strong self esteem in today’s tough environment can be difficult but is not impossible if you follow a few simple guidelines. Here are 6 tips you can use as a starter guide to self improvement.

Everything and everyone else around you can affect your self esteem. Other people can deliberately or inadvertently damage your self image. Unchecked people and circumstances can ultimately destroy your self esteem and pull you down in ways you won’t even notice. Don’t let these influences get the best of you. But what should you avoid?

1 : A Negative Work Environment

Beware of a “dog eat dog” environment where everyone else is fighting just to get ahead. This is where non-appreciative people usually thrive and working extra is expected and not rewarded. In this environment no one will appreciate your contributions even if you miss lunch, dinner, and stay at work late into the night. Unless you are very fortunate most of the time you will work too hard with no help from others around you. This type of atmosphere will ruin your self esteem. This is not just healthy competition, at its worst it is brutal and very damaging.

2: Other Peoples Behavior

Bulldozers, brown nosers, gossipmongers, whiners, backstabbers, snipers, people walking wounded, controllers, naggers, complainers, exploders, patronizers, sluffers – whatever you want to call them, all have one thing in common – an overriding desire to prosper at the expense of others. Avoid them and do not be tempted to join them. They may get some short term advantage with their behavior but deep down most are very insecure, unhappy and ashamed of their behavior. For most their self esteem disappeared a long time ago. Seeing someone like this prosper is sickening but do not join them – you are better than that!

3: A Changing Environment

In today’s fast moving society it is difficult if not impossible to avoid change. Changes challenge our paradigms and tests our flexibility, adaptability and alter the way we think. Changes can make your life difficult and may cause stress but, if it’s inevitable, you must accept it, don’t fight it and in time find ways to improve your life. Try to manage change and try to avoid multiple changes at the same time. If a particular change can’t be avoided welcome it. Change will be with us forever, we must learn to live with it.

4: Past Experience

We all carry “baggage” – past experiences which have molded us to who we are today, but some people live in their past experiences – usually something that hurt and still hurts. It’s okay to cry out when you experience pain but don’t let pain dominate your life as it will transform itself into fears and phobias. If something painful happens, or has happened to you, find a way to minimize the effects. Discuss it with a friend, a family member or a professional if necessary and move on. Don’t let it continue to dominate your life and dictate your future actions. Because something bad has happened doesn’t mean it will happen again. Learn what you can from any bad experience and move on.

5: Negative World View

The television news is full of doom and gloom and it is true that around the world there are many people suffering war, famine or other natural or man-made disasters. Whilst I do not suggest you should not care and do nothing, remember that there are many beautiful positive things happening too. Don’t wrap yourself up with all the negative aspects around the world. Learn to look for beauty too for, in building self esteem, we must learn how to be positive in a negative world.

6: Determination Theory

Are we a product of our biological inherited characteristics (nature) or a result of the influences we absorb throughout out lives (nurture)? I believe how we are is due to a mixture of both nurture and nature and as a result our behavioral traits are not fixed. While it is true that some things are dictated by genetics (for example race, color and many inherited conditions) your environment and the people in your life have a major effect on your behavior. You are your own person, you have your own identity and make your own choices. The characteristics your mother or father display are not your destiny. Learn from other people’s experience, so you don’t suffer the same mistakes.

Are some people are born leaders or positive thinkers? I don’t believe so. Being positive, and staying positive is a choice. Building self esteem and drawing on positive experiences for self improvement is a choice, not a rule or a talent. No-one will come to you and give you permission to build your self esteem and improve your self. It is in your control.

It can be hard to keep positive, especially when others and circumstances seem to be conspiring to pull you down. You need to protect yourself and give yourself a chance to stay positive. Improving your self esteem gives you that protection.

One way to stay positive is to minimize your exposure to harmful influences while using affirmations to boost the positive influences in your life. Constantly reminding yourself of the good things in your life will keep the impact of negative influences to a minimum.

Common Habits Of Happy Families

What makes some families more happy than others? The short answer is they are aware of doing things that make them happy. They have probably taken the time to explore what they like to do, what makes the members of the family happy and importantly make the time to do those things more regularly than the things that they don’t particularly enjoy.

It sounds simple and it is. It is about not being lazy! People who are happy are more aware!

Aware of what you may ask, and that’s a great question. Individuals in the family are aware of what they like and actually go out regularly and simply do those things. Most importantly, they do those things together. Hence the saying has arisen that the family that plays together, stays together!

Here are 5 common habits of happy families.

1 Being Grateful for everything in their lives. Having gratitude for the things that they have. Gratitude comes from an awareness of acceptance of what life is offering to each of us at any given moment. If you do not have acceptance in the present moment, than it is more difficult to be grateful. Accetance and gratitude are the foundations for enthusiasm which brings for the feelings we all desire which is happiness.

2 Acceptance of the consequences of our choices and finding an appropriate level of satisfaction leads to happiness. When you have the habit of acceptance or satisfaction of what happens, you enjoy life more. People who try and “maximse” everything that they engage in are usually to wrung out at the end of the day to enjoy anything. They are never satisfied and are continually chasing their tail, so to speak. Simply limit the number of choices on offer to you is helpful.

3 Focussing on one thing at a time is a habit for happy families. The power to pay attention to what you as a family are wanting is a great habit to engage in because it limits the choices, focusses each family member and everyone can take some ownership of the family experience.

4 Simply being together and hanging out together. Being comfortable with not doing things all the time.

5 Love yourself forst and then love your family by spreading the magic of love in each moment. Human beings thrive on close personal relationships. Human beings do not like to be on their own most of the time.

So it is in the understanding and being aware of the things we do regularly as a family unit that offer the level of satisfaction or happiness of being part of a happy family. From here you can live a rich life.
